Legnoart (pronounced Lay-no-art) is made in the northern italian town of Omegna, about 50 miles from Milan. Omegna is built around Lake Orta and surrounded by mountains. The area, which has a long history of working with wood and stainless steel is home to several well-known design-led homeware companies. The business is run by Enrico Albertini and is very much a family business. Enrico oversees all designs and is soley responsible for many. He likes products that share both form and function. "They must be beautiful to look at and perform well too. Each product must be perfect, true to the designer's creation, no matter if it is more difficult to produce or takes a little longer. The amount of work necessary to create these items mean they will be out of reach of many people but they are a 'must have' for anyone seeking a product at the very pinnacle of design and manufacturing ability."
Legnoart trolleys are made from the wood of lime trees. Because it does not warp, lime wood is still used for the sounding boards and keys of pianos and organs and as it is free from taint it is used for dairy and domestic cooking products and utensils. It is also the preferred wood for beehive frames. In the Second World War, many of the native limes along the limestone gorges of the River Wye in England were felled to provide plywood for Mosquito planes. The finished trolley is then sealed using an environmentally friendly solution made entirely from vegetable and mineral products including lemon oil, beeswax, soybean oil etc. instead of synthetic and oil based finishes.
Please note that these trolleys are made to order in Italy and delivery takes around 6 weeks.
